What you need to know about VoLTE
CDMA is the legacy 2G technology for voice and texting services. As technology evolves, transitioning voice traffic to using data networks is the progression of the wireless industry. This technology is called Voice-Over LTE or VoLTE.
You will see a difference in voice coverage as CDMA services are decommissioned.
Transitioning voice traffic to using data networks is the progression of the wireless industry; however, data signals and voice signals travel differently and provide varying coverage areas because they are different technologies.
If your device and SIM are not VoLTE-capable you will be unable to use
- Standard voice service, using the dialer
- Standard SMS texting
- Standard 911 calling
Your SIM is a small integrated circuit that stores your mobile phone's identification information so that you can utilize our cellular network. As a result, you will need a VoLTE-capable SIM to use calling services.
Upgrading your SIM as soon as possible ensures you continue to have voice services.
